Viola Strings

A great selection of Viola Strings available to buy online or instore at Bonners Music Superstore

Violin

It is quite amazing the difference that a good quality set of strings can make to your instrument - even if it's a low cost beginners type instrument.

What makes a good string?

They need to be strong and responsive, with even tension throughout. It's always best to match the same brand of string for all four on your instrument as this prevents the tone colour changing so much when crossing over strings.

If you are not satisfied with the sound of your instrument, try changing the strings - you may be surprised at the improvement this could make.

THE THREE BRANDS OF STRINGS WE KEEP IN STOCK

Astrea Viola Strings

Astrea strings can be purchased seperately or as a complete set. The E string (for violins) is made of steel and the A, D, G are chrome wound. These are budget strings and not suggested for intermediate players.

Dogal Viola Strings

Dogal strings have a steel core and are bronze wound. They have a similar tension to strings made with a gut core. They have a reasonably warm sound and suit beginners using the smaller sizes.

Dominant Viola Strings

The core of Dominant strings is made from a type of nylon called Perlon. This is then wrapped in aluminium which produces a much warmer and rounder sound than metal strings. Dominant strings are quick to hold their tuning - even when first fitted.

Dominant strings are our preferred brand of string, and produce an excellent 'well rounded' tone, whether fitted to student violins or more professional models.

To maximise the life and tone of your strings, we recommend you keep your strings clean.
