Marshall JTM1H Head 1 Watt Limited Edition
The Marshall JTM1H is a limited edition 1 watt all valve head built to commemorate 50 years of Marshall. The JTM1 head and combo dish out classic 1960s Marshall tones at sensible volume levels! We would advise getting your order in quick if you fancy owning a piece of Marshall history, these amps won't last long. Here's what Marshall have to say about these highly collectable and desirable amps;
As part of our 50th Anniversary celebration, we are proud to announce the release of the JTM1C 1x10" combo & JTM1H head - two 1 Watt, all-valve amps that reflect the era of 1960s Marshall tone and aesthetics. This duo are the first in a Series of five Limited Edition 1 Watt, all-valve head and combo pairings - each one paying homage to one of the five decades that Marshall has been in business. Each pair will be released at approximately 11 week intervals throughout 2012, Marshall's 50 Years of Loud Anniversary year. These will only be available in 2012 and will be made in England with pride at Marshall's UK factory.
Starting with the decade in which Marshall Amplification as a company was born, the JTM1 truly reflects the origins of the company. Based on the tone stack of the JTM45, and as if the inputs had been ‘jumped’, the JTM1 is the simplest amp in the range in terms of layout, but still has all the warmth, brashness and bite you would expect in an amp based on this decade. Everything from bright clean in the amps lower volume stages, to true Marshall Crunch in the upper can be found; think windmill arm actions and the wind crying Mary!
Like all of the 50th Anniversary, 1 Watt, all-valve heads and combos, the Limited Edition JTM1H and JTM1C are built at Marshall's factory in Bletchley, England, with a huge amount of pride. And, like all the products we build at our UK HQ, the amount of that all important, human "hands-on" involvement & expertise is high. Here's a quick glimpse into the birth of the JTM1s.
Cabinet Construction
The parts that make up the cabinet for each JTM1H and JTM1C are cut out of solid sheets of Birch plywood and then "finger" or comb joints are then cut into the respective edges to ensure strength, a tight fit between sides and also maximum resonance in the case of a combo cabinet. After gluing, the glue is cured using an RF generator. The fixing points for the baffle and back are attached and the edges and corners are rounded before the frame is sanded by hand.
Into the Fire
Once sanded to perfection, each cabinet is hooked onto a conveyer belt and carried into an oven which helps the interior paint which is sprayed while on the conveyor dry quickly. It's also the water based adhesive used for the application of the vinyl "tack off" so the cabinets can be handled without permanent human attachment!
Dressed to Kill
Black vinyl is applied at covering bench, a painstakingly tricky process that requires skilled hands to cut, tuck and secure the covering smoothly and evenly. Fret cloth is stapled to the speaker baffle of the combo, piping is applied around it and then the block logo is attached - also by hand. Once these steps are completed, the baffle is then fitted to the vinyl covered combo box, the speaker is inserted by hand, and then the vinyl covered, back panels are also screwed on. The final touch to the "back story" is the careful, hand application of the "Limited Edition" plaque.
Chassis Completion & Final Testing
Although a printed circuit loaded board which has many of its components auto inserted, flow soldered and the tested by computer, is used in the JTM 1 Watt amps, the amount of work and wiring done by hand is considerable. This includes wiring of control pots, the indicator lamp & On/Off switch to mention just three things. The insertion of carefully selected and rigorously tested valves is also done by hand. Last, but certainly not least, once completely assembled, each and every amp is painstakingly tested the good old fashioned way - by plugging in a guitar!
