Description

Kawai CA78 Polished Ebony Digital Piano

Now available in the stunning high-gloss black polyester finish, the Kawai CA78 is one of the most beautiful pianos available and it features the same Shigeru Kawai Concert Grand piano voices that are found in the flagship CA98 model. An excellent piano, with top of the range features at a mid-range price.

Tony White - Bonners Piano Specialist

The brand new Kawai CA78 Digital Piano not only features their most realistic wooden keyboard action, but now adds the convenience of Bluetooth, an LCD touchscreen display, and premium amplification never-before-seen in digital pianos. This, along with the new multi-channel piano sound, now means you can hear the flagship SK-EX Concert Grand Piano in even better quality, with authentic 88-note resonance, and Kawai’s most complex modelling. With the latest series, Kawai have maintained all the best elements and features of previous CA series pianos, and have added attributes that improve the playing and user experience.

Grand Feel Touch

Kawai have kept with the winning formula of their Grand Feel II keyboard action for the CA78. The wooden black and white keys have graded counterweights to ensure a light and responsive touch, along with a seesaw-style pivot to recreate the feel of an acoustic grand piano. Most digital pianos have a shorter key and a pivot at the rear, which doesn’t allow for the repetition the Grand Feel II achieves on this model. The final result is a key action that delivers the feel of playing a Kawai Grand Piano.

Piano Sound

The CA78 features a brand-new piano-only sound engine. The SK-EX Concert Grand has been recorded from multiple points across the soundboard, and as a result, the sound created is much more realistic than typical stereo sampling. The tonal characteristics, dynamic control, and expression come across much more accurately and even make for a more responsive touch as the piano reacts to your playing across all registers. Mathematical algorithms are used to reproduce the natural resonances of the Kawai SK-EX Concert Grand. The result is a rich, authentic tone. From string and damper resonance, to aliquot and key-off noise, the resonances are applied progressively across all 88 keys. Over 1000 parameters are active in real time, giving you the most detailed and authentic sound. On top of this brand new "Pianist Mode" feature, Kawai have kept the "Sound Mode" from previous models, including samples of the SK-EX, and SK5 Grand Pianos.

Premium Amplification

Kawai have collaborated with Japanese electronics manufacturer Onkyo in the manufacturing of the CA78. The sound resolution is unrivalled in digital pianos, thanks to 1-Bit DSD processing – as well as increasing the sound resolution, the depth and tonal quality are also enhanced. The harmonic character of the piano is maintained through the purest sound quality, with any digital noise and unwanted distortion eliminated. The amplifiers have a large dynamic range, and as a result, the presence and clarity of the sound is excellent. Brand new technology called “Discrete SpectraModule” reproduces a genuine acoustic piano sound through headphone playing, with fast responsiveness to changes in dynamics. In summary, the level of engineering and quality of the components used make for the highest quality sound you will find on a digital piano.

Bluetooth Technology

Where previous models have relied on wired connections to access external devices, the CA78 now comes with Bluetooth Audio and MIDI connectivity. Through Bluetooth MIDI you can record and play songs wirelessly, and connect to various apps on Smart Devices. The CA78 is compatible with iOS8, Android Marshmallow, and OS X Yosemite. The Bluetooth Audio function enables streaming of any audio file, allowing seamless accompaniment to your favourite songs, or even watching lesson videos online.

LCD Touchscreen

The CA78 features a brand new 5-inch colour touchscreen. Coming away from clicking buttons, this LCD screen lets you touch and swipe the screen to operate all the functions of the piano. The screen will turn off when you are playing or when the screen is inactive. The user interface is simple to use, helping you select sounds, songbooks, and concert magic with a touch or swipe. You can even save your favourite settings to come back to each time you turn the CA78 on.

Design

The attractive and practical design of previous CA series digital pianos has been maintained and improved. Along with the brand-new touchscreen, the CA78 features a 6-position music rest, a raised pedal unit to provide a more comfortable playing experience, and a coverless speaker opening above the keyboard. The toe block has been thinned and KAWAI badge repositioned.

Kawai MP7-SE Keyboard Action The MP7-SE is fitted with the acclaimed RH3 Action. The RH3 keyboard features let-off (just like an acoustic grand), and has ivory touch key surfaces which make it a joy to play over prolonged periods of performance. The triple sensors capture every nuance of your performance, and the counterweights ensure the return of every note is fast and balanced. The Sound of THREE Kawai Grand Pianos Kawai have packed the MP7SE with their very best piano samples. The flagship sound is that of the Shigeru Kawai SK-EX concert grand. This powerful piano tone has enough body to cut through the mix when performing on stage, whilst still capable delivering a truly expressive performance when required. This is certainly one of the best piano samples in the current range of digital pianos from all the major manufacturers. In addition to the SK-EX Concert Grand, there are samples from the studio sized SK5 grand which is ideal for popular music. The EX Concert Grand piano sound is also present this tone has become a popular favourite with owners of Kawai digital pianos over the past few years and were pleased it has been included in the new MP7 SE model. USB Audio Player / Recorder The MP7SE allows recording of internal sounds to an external USB storage device (not included). It is also possible to playback pre-recorded files in .WAV or .MP3 formats. 256 Note Polyphony The 256-note polyphony of the Kawai MP7-SE means youll never suffer with notes dropping out even when youve layered multiple sounds and using copious amounts of sustain pedal! 256 Sounds / 4 Zones & 256 User Memory Slots There are 256 different sounds in the MP7SE covering genres such as pianos, organs, clavs, strings, brass, synths, woodwind, orchestral and more. Its possible to layer/split up to four voices together using the independent keyboard zones, or you can assign a zone to an external sound source such as a MIDI sound module or other keyboard which gives even more flexibility on stage. Once youve set up your sounds, it is possible to store the complete keyboard setup to a user memory location. There are a total of 256 user memories for storing your own setups. These setups can be named and instantly recalled during a performance. Tonewheel Organ Sounds If you need quality tonewheel drawbar organ sounds, the MP7SE delivers in this department too. Its possible to create your favourite classic organ tones using the on-screen drawbars. Add the rotary speaker effect and a little overdrive, and you have a convincing sound of a screaming Hammond organ! Customise Your Own Piano Tones Using the Kawai Virtual Technician The MP7SE includes Kawais Virtual Technician feature for creating your own unique piano tones. Alter characteristics of the core piano samples including damper resonance, individual note tuning, individual note voicing, hammer noise, string resonance and more. Save your own customised piano sounds to the internal memory for recall later. Kawai 5 Year Warranty The MP7SE is supplied with a genuine five-year manufacturers warranty. This indicates the excellent build quality and confidence Kawai has in the MP7SE. Beautifully Designed The MP7-SE is beautifully designed to not only look great, but inspire the player. High gloss polished ebony wooden end panels complete the overall high-end quality look and feel of this instrument. Kawai CA98 Polished Ebony Digital Piano The CA98 is a wonderful piano and is now even more desirable in the stunning polished ebony cabinet finish. The soundboard speaker system gives a much improved sound over the lower range CA78 model, and rivals that of the larger cabinet Kawai CS11. Make sure you include this on your list of must-try pianos! Tony White - Bonners Piano Specialist The Kawai CA98 digital piano the top of the range instrument from the leading Japanese manufacturer. The aim of the CA98 is to give the most authentic grand piano experience and this is achieved by bringing together five of Kawai’s most advanced digital piano technologies. Realistic Keyboard Action The Kawai Grand Feel II keyboard has become one of the most popular piano keyboard actions available. The long natural wooden keys give the correct balance and weighting that you would expect from a high quality acoustic piano. This allows the player to give an expressive performance and feel a real connection to the instrument. The CA98 is the perfect piano for both advanced pianists or beginners who are serious about learning. The aim of the Grand Feel II keyboard action is to allow a seamless transition between the digital piano and an acoustic instrument. New SK-EX Rendered Piano Sound Engine The piano sound in the new Kawai CA98 is vastly improved over previous models and has been created using multi-channel sampling techniques. The core piano voice was recorded using multiple microphones placed at specific positions within Kawai’s flagship Shigeru EX concert grand piano. This results in more tonal characteristics and a lively, expressive sound. The player experiences smoother dynamic control and improved keyboard responsiveness when compared with regular stereo sampling techniques. Resonance modelling calculates individual string resonances for all 88 keys and is applied to the sound in real time, meaning that the CA98 piano is responding to your playing style and expression - just like a traditional acoustic piano. Two Separate Sound Modes The Kawai CA98 operates in two different sound modes - ‘Pianist Mode’ and ‘Sound Mode’. Pianist Mode - Use pianist mode for when you want the very best traditional piano experience, using the new rendered piano sound engine. Pianist mode diverts all the voice processing power to the piano engine and allows use of the SK-EX rendered piano sound with multi-channel sampling and 88 key resonance modelling. There are 10 different ‘character variations’ of piano available to suit a wide variety of music styles when performing in pianist mode. Changing between the different piano characters is carried out by simply swiping left/right on the touchscreen. Sound Mode - Use Sound Mode when you want to access the additional voices in the CA98, including alternative popular piano sounds from previous Kawai instruments such as the SK-EX piano, SK6 and EX concert piano sounds, as well as strings, organs, choirs, synth sounds, bass voices, harpsichords & electric pianos. Selecting different voices in the ‘sound mode’ is very simple: Swipe left/right to select sound or Swipe up/down to select category. High Quality Onkyo Amplification Technology To ensure the CA98 delivers the very best possible sound reproduction, Kawai have partnered with Onkyo - a leading Japanese manufacturer of premium audio equipment to incorporate a high quality amplification system in the CA98. The 1-bit DSD Processing increases sound resolution (similar to upscaling on a 4K television) and enhances the depth of tone to give a warmer “analogue” sound. Two premium digital-to-analogue convertors decode the left and right channels separately and give the most precise conversion ever seen in a digital piano. Dynamic Intermodulation Distortion Reduction Circuitry (DIDRC) uses unique filtering technology to eliminate digital-specific noise. This helps to preserve the piano’s harmonic character and results in the purest possible sound quality. Premium Quality Headphone Amp The CA98 is equipped with a Discrete SprectraModule premium headphone amplifier to give an exquisite experience when practicing piano using earphones. This brand new, unique technology faithfully reproduces the piano’s characteristics. Flagship Speaker System In addition to the excellent amplification technology found in the CA98, the instrument is equipped with Onkyo developed premium speaker units. These speakers provide low distortion levels and a flat tonal character - just like the monitor speakers used in professional recording studios. The third generation ‘Twin Drive’ soundboard speaker uses natural materials to resonate just like an acoustic piano. This new soundboard speaker system uses new transducer units developed by Onkyo to give a broader frequency range and more power/ volume. Bluetooth Connectivity The CA98 can now send & receive bluetooth MIDI and AUDIO data wirelessly. This allows you to record and play songs, or use apps using your smartphone, tablet or laptop. No cables, no adaptors! The Bluetooth audio streaming lets you accompany your favourite music or watch lesson videos whilst hearing the audio through the high quality sound system of the CA98. Touchscreen User Interface The CA98 is the first digital piano to feature Kawai’s new touchscreen user interface. Embedded in the left hand panel of the instrument, this attractive graphical user interface gives a modern, clean look. It’s easy to operate the CA98 and accessing the more complex functions is much easier than traditional digital pianos with button/LCD menu systems. Memorise Your Favourite Sounds & Settings You can quickly recall your favourite sounds and settings by storing them to the ‘Favourites’ memories. Each ‘favourite’ can be named to make identifying your most-used sounds a simple task. Refined Cabinet Design Attention to detail has been paid to the design of the CA98’s cabinet. From the beautiful touchscreen interface that darkens when not being used, to the 6 position music rest and coverless speaker openings, the CA98 is both practical and beautiful.
