MXR M78 Custom 78 Badass Distortion Pedal

The first in a line from the MXR Custom Badass design team, the MXR Custom Badass ’78 Distortion is a factory-modded pedal that roars with huge amp stack tones and old school tube amp-like distortion. We took a classic distortion circuit and hot-rodded it to the next level for over-the-top soaring leads and rich, saturated rhythms. With only three knobs, dialing in Badass tone is a cinch. The CRUNCH button allows you to choose between two different modes of diode and LED clipping, boosting the harmonic content of the distortion. The MXR '78 Distortion's wide open amp-like sound sounds great whether it's in front of a clean amp, a slightly dirty amp, or a full on overdriven amp. Under the hood, this high performance machine features top notch circuitry and hardware meant for a lifetime of use.

Finance Options

Start owning the musical instrument you want now, today!

If you're set on buying your new instrument, there's no need to get weighed down by the total cost of it straight away. If you break it down into monthly payments over time, it's much more manageable than you might think. And our fixed interest rates mean you'll know exactly what you're paying from the start.

How To Apply For Finance

How it works

The finance options available are displayed on the individual product pages.

Pay a fixed deposit, depending on the price of the purchase. The rest is split into monthly payments up to three years. At the end of your contract when you've made your final payment, the instrument or equipment is all yours. You could own that dream guitar, drum kit or piano sooner than you thought!

Finance is available for selected new and used instruments.

Which Finance Options Are Available?

Most products on our website show the available finance options. Some are interest free, and some are interest bearing. The options shown on the site are an example of what is available - if you would like to pay over a different period, give us a call on 01323 639335 and we’ll try and arrange a finance option that suits your budget.

You can apply for finance online, or over the telephone - call us on 01323 639335 if you'd like to speak to one of our musical instrument experts.

All finance is subject to acceptance by our finance provider and a credit check will be carried out on the applicant.

Call 01323 639335 to discuss finance options in more detail.

We offer our customers the ability to apply for simple finance facilities to fund a purchase from us. Once you are accepted by V12 Retail Finance you will be asked to eSign the credit agreement and once in receipt of your purchase, v12 will make your agreement live and your monthly repayments will commence for the agreed term. In short retail finance gives you the flexibility to buy what you really want now, not just what you can afford today by spreading the cost of your purchase over a repayment period that suits your budget.

You must: Be at least 18 years of age Have been a UK resident for 3 years or more Be able to make repayments by direct debit Be in regular employment* (minimum of 16 hours per week) including self-employment, or in permanent residence with your spouse/partner who is in regular employment *If you are retired and receive a pension or registered disabled and unable to work, V12 Retail Finance may ask for proof of sufficient income.

During the loan application process you will be asked for your personal information such as name, 3 year address history, date of birth, email and telephone contact details and employment/income information. If you are accepted you will also need a credit or debit card registered to you at your address on the credit application so that the lender can carry out an electronic identity check.

Processing Time

With most applications we expect that you will be given an acceptance or decline decision within 10-20 seconds. In some cases the lender may return the decision as ‘referred’. You will then receive an email with further instructions once the underwriters have made a decision. For in store applications you can usually wait in the shop whilst the underwriters review your application. Underwriting hours are between 8am and 8pm, Monday to Friday (excluding Bank holidays), 9am and 6pm on Saturday, and 10am and 5pm on Sunday. You do not meet the eligibility criteria (see above);

  • adverse credit reference agency information;
  • your credit score;
  • you are considered to be overcommitted;
  • or your existing account performance with other lenders.

The lender will give you the contact details for the credit reference agency used. They will also give you information on how to appeal the decision if you wish to discuss the matter. Please note that the lender is unable to discuss this over the telephone due to Data Protection rules. You should also note that each lender applies its own credit score to applicants so if you have recently been accepted for credit elsewhere this does not necessarily mean that appealing the decision on this basis alone will result in a change of decision.

JHS Pedals ProCo RAT2 Modified Guitar Distortion Pedal JHS Pedals ProCo RAT2 Modified Guitar Distortion Pedal

JHS Pedals ProCo RAT2 Modified Guitar Distortion Pedal A Brief History of the RAT The ProCo RAT has already stamped its name firmly into the annals of guitar pedal history. The brutalist, gritty pedal, that was spawned in a basement in Kalamazoo in the late-70’s as a customer-order only pedal, quickly rose to notoriety through its presence on many a famous pedalboard. Thanks to players like Graham Coxon, Kurt Kobain and David Gilmour the RAT, relatively quickly, established itself as one of the heavy hitters in the distortion landscape. The RAT has always been more of a tooth loosening sucker-punch to the prettier, careful caress provided by most of its contemporaries, such as the Tube Screamer. The RAT is a little less tame. A little more aggressive and in-your-face. Its presence looms over the dirtier, murkier genres like grunge and that is where it established a sturdy foothold.  Scurrying Through The Years As with most things, ProCo’s success with the RAT lead to much higher demand and, to meet that demand, the pedal has to move to a higher pace of production. The way to do this, invariably, is to move towards a more repeatable design process. Gone are the days of customer-order only, hand-crafted rodents. This is great for guitarists everywhere as it means that more people can get their hands on a piece of distortion history at a reasonable price but has lead to a slight stray from the tonal character and identity of the original. The Construction Of Frankenstein’s Monster Here’s where JHS come in. The good folks over there have become known for their illustrious pedal mods. They have taken many a current pedal and applied some JHS witchcraft to breath new life or restore it to a former state. In the case of the RAT, JHS has focussed on expanding its versatility and moulding its character back to the gritty, gnarly, plague-ridden RAT’s of old.  The first thing they changed was the chip. The Holy Grail chip that ProCo used back in the day was the LMN308 chip. Now, this chip is no longer in production but JHS has conducted an exhaustive search to find the perfect chip to capture all of the vibe and character of the original whilst also producing less noise and creating a clearer, more well-rounded response overall. Secondly, JHS attacked the circuitry. They tore out all the cheaper, mass-produced capacitors with much higher-grade metal film and tantalum caps. This went hand in hand with some subtle value changes to produce a more ideal bass response and smoother highs. “It’s Alive!” Once the innards were re-configured and given a hearty upgrade JHS went one step further. They have added a three-way-toggle-switch onto the top of the pedal. This allows you to access three different clipping levels. The three levels are as follows. Down: Pure vintage. Middle: Open boost. Up: Turbo RAT. With this added customisation, the pedal can deliver a much wider spectrum of drive tones. You can have the pedal behave exactly as it would have done back in the late-70’s through to having it screech like a 12-foot demonic rodent. Everything from light crunch to searing fuzz is on tap and, no matter where you have the pedal set, you can expect crystal clear, super high-quality tonality thanks to the improvements to the circuitry inside. They’ve even changed the LED from red to green. Which also adds some pretty major style points in my books. Why Bonners? Here at Bonners Music, you have the opportunity to try one of these great JHS effects pedals yourself. Just give us a call on 01323 636141 or better still, visit our showroom! Wampler Velvet Fuzz Guitar Pedal Fuzz is somewhat of a secret spice in a lot of guitar players tonal recipes. It is a deceptively dynamic effect which has a surprising amount of versatility. The Velvet Fuzz from Wampler aims to provide a really rich, smooth and powerful sound that offers sounds that tailor to both the vintage and modern side of things. Think David Gilmour on a skateboard, wearing a snap-back, backwards. Tonality The pedal starts from the foundations of a driven, EL34 powered amp tonality (a sound taken from the characteristics of another very famous Wampler pedal) and builds a really fully fledged fuzz landscape on top of it.  Wampler’s Velvet Fuzz gives you two different types of clipping options. The two options are not just the standard germanium or silicon options which simply give you two subtly different flavours of the same sound. These options work to provide you with either a full, fat fuzz tone with bags of power, sustain and bottom end, or, with the other mode you can have the pedal tighten up, making it behave and sound more like a distortion pedal would. The first mode leaning more towards a more classic, vintage tonal palette with the second mode offering more of a crunchy, modern sound. Fans of David Gilmour and Eric Johnson need look no further than the Velvet Fuzz from Wampler. It’s a lovely, high-quality pedal that delivers amazing levels of fuzz versatility whilst retaining true authenticity within all of its sounds. Also, it shouldn’t really be a factor, but it's a real beauty to look at too! Why Bonners? Here at Bonners Music, you have the opportunity to try one of these great Wampler effects pedals yourself. To create the Super Badass Variac Fuzz, the MXR design team dusted off a rare vintage silicon circuit, tuned it up, and added a Variac control so you can set the pedal’s voltage anywhere from 5 to 15V. For that wonderful saggy fuzz effect you get as a 9V battery loses its power, just lower the voltage by turning the Variac knob counterclockwise. Increasing the voltage raises the effect’s headroom, opening up the fuzz for a more transparent sound at 15V. The MXR Super Badass Variac Fuzz’s simple interface is rounded out with Tone, Output, and Gain controls, and it all comes in a road-ready housing with true bypass switching. Set voltage from 5V–15V Lower voltage for “dying battery” effect Increase voltage for more headroom & clarity At Bonners Music we are finding these MXR Guitar Effects Pedals superb.We make sure we have them in stock or on order. T REX Replay Box Digital Delay Guitar Effects Pedal T REX Replay Box Digital Delay Guitar Effects Pedal

T REX Replay Box Digital DelayGuitar Effects PedalBy using new hardware, T REX not only created a very studio-like sounding delay, but were able to increase the delay time to a maximum of 3 seconds. It sounds more modern and it doesn´t distort or warble – it merely sends out what you put in, only a little later and in a very pleasing way. Just like all our other delays, the dry signal is kept analog, so there is no latency or coloring from the converters to the dry signal.Tap Tempo works great for keeping the delay time in sync with the guy banging on the skins, but there is something to be said about subdivisions. A straight up quarter note delay works great for most sounds, but the rhythmic pattern that emerges from a perfect dotted eighth delay is quite nice and triplets can be just the ticket in swing or more rootsy types of music, so T REX put in all three options. You only have to tap the footswitch to the beat of the song, and the Replay Box will do the rest of the work for you by adjusting the delay time to 1/1, 2/3 or 3/4 of your foot taps, depending on the switch setting. Try tapping a perfect triplet with your foot while you play… you will know why the switch comes in handy!The T REX Replay Box features stereo in- and outputs, so you get the most out of those stereo modulation boxes you sometimes step on. Not only is the dry stereo image kept intact, but the DSP processes each side individually, according to the knobs settings. It´s sort of like having two identical delay pedals for each side.
