American Ultra Jazzmaster®, Maple Fingerboard, Cobra Blue
The guitars that have always been put on the top of the podium in Fenders catalogue of American made instruments has always been reserved for the guitars that innovates the classic designs of the past so that it can be used and enjoyed by modern players.
The new American Ultra starts from where the Elite Series left off and further refines these much-loved classics to be the best possible versions of themselves ever made. Brand new to this ‘podium range’ is the new American Ultra Jazzmaster.
Interestingly, the Fender Jazzmaster was introduced in 1958 as Fender’s top of the line model. Its advanced switching options, refined P90 Jazzmaster pickups and premium aesthetics with binding around the neck made it the most prestigious model that Fender had ever produced.
>Since then, the Jazzmaster has pretty much been overlooked whenever Fender went to put the classics back on the drawing board for upgrades and refinements, particularly when it came to ranges such as the American Elite or Deluxe. For the first time since the 50s and 60s, the new American Ultra range puts the Jazzmaster back on the podium as one of the top of the range instruments of the Fender catalogue.
The most noticeable refinement to the Ultra Jazzmaster is the newly designed tapered neck heel and sculpted contours, particularly the one on the back by the neck join. These allow for the most comfortable access to the higher register of the Jazzmaster ever. You can now seamlessly glide from the 1st to the last fret without hitting big chunks of the body wood.
The neck is a very comfortable and fast Modern D shape and the fingerboard features a 10”-14” compound radius for ridiculously easy string bending as well as effortless shredding and chord work.
Another big feature of the new American Ultra Jazzmaster is the Ultra Noiseless Vintage Jazzmaster Pickups. This is the first time that Fender has made a noiseless P90 Jazzmaster pickup and they really do give you all that classic vintage P90 warmth and bark without any of the single-coil hum or buzz.
The Ultra Jazzmaster also comes in an array of new finishes such as Cobra Blue, Ultraburst, Plasma red Burst and Mocha Burst. As eye-catching as it is functionally flawless, the new Fender American Ultra Jazzmaster perfectly enhances this classic for the modern player and put this prestigious instrument back onto the podium as one of Fender’s top of the line electric guitars.
Dual Volume Phase Circuit
One of the most noticeable refinements to the new Ultra Jazzmaster is the newly designed Dual Volume Phase circuit. This replaces the standard Lead/Rhythm circuit that’s typically found on a Fender Jazzmaster. Engaging the Dual Volume Phase circuit takes the pickups out of phase and unleashes a whole spectrum of new hollow-sounding out of phase tones. Each pickup has its own independent volume thumbwheel so that you can truly dial in your own unique Jazzmaster tone.
S1 Series/Parallel
As well as the Dual Volume Phase circuit you also get an S1 switch for Series/Parallel wiring options on the new American Ultra Jazzmaster. Sneakily hidden in the volume knob, the S1 switch changes the internal pickup wiring from Parallel to Series meaning that when you’re in the middle position, the 2 pickups kind of become 1. The volume becomes louder and more full, it's a bit like having a boost pedal built right into the guitar. Perfect for boosting yourself through the mix for a solo or for pushing your amp into even more overdrive.
Attention to Detail
It's the attention to small details that really puts the new American Ultra Jazzmaster above the rest. Its beautifully rolled fingerboard edges make this Jazzmaster feel like it’s been played every day since 1958 and the locking tuners along with the bone nut ensures that tuning is never an issue, even when using the wiggle stick. The Treble Bleed circuit ensures that your tone remains pure and true even when you’re rolling the volume down for less gain and of course the Ultra Jazzmaster comes as standard with an Elite moulded lightweight hard case. All of these small things do add up and really helps to make it a guitar that works for you and your unique playing style. A guitar that actually works with you and helps you forget about the physical elements of the instruments and helps your playing to become your own voice.
