Way Huge Smalls Aqua-Puss Analog Delay
Way Huge Smalls Aqua-Puss Analog Delay Effects Pedal
Delay; the Way Huge Way
The Aqua-Puss Smalls mk.III takes the beloved and incredibly pretty analog delay from the mastermind that is Jeorge Tripps at Way Huge and shoves it into a new “smalls” enclosure. That means that Way Huge’s classic Aqua-Puss is now much more pedal-board friendly. Despite this new smaller stature, you can still expect it to deliver traditional slap-back analog delay and authentic, jangly goodness in spades. It is no nonsense, no fat, just the good stuff.
Lean Mean Repeating Machine
The Aqua-Puss Smalls offers anything from 20ms to 300ms of delay time to create slap-back effects of all varieties. Whether you set the trail to immediately follow your note for use as a thickener or extend out to the realms of washy country, the Aqua-Puss will deliver solidly. There’s no flashy gimmicks or ambient swell features to be seen. The focus here is on utilitarianism and dependability whilst preserving tonal quality and analog authenticity.
Simplicity
One of the best qualities of the Aqua-Puss is its simplicity. Three knobs are all you’ll need to dial in a beautiful delay tone to suit any purpose. It’s quick and intuitive; perfect for manipulating on the fly in the heat of the moment. This simplicity does not come at the expense of flexibility though. Though concise, the controls are very dynamic and powerful allowing you to hone them for studio level precision. But that is all you have to contend with. The lack of extra switches and toggles eliminates the threat of option paralysis and encourages play.
Controls
Top left is your delay control. This simply controls the aforementioned delay time between 20ms at the low end and 300ms at the top. Turned to the left the repeat is more or less immediate and can be used as a handy thickener. Turning to the right increases the time from a nice subtle amount of natural room slap-back to a moderate amount of space.
In the middle is feedback. This controls the amount of repeats the pedal will generate. This knob is a little less conservative than the delay knob and can get quite washy if you’d like it to.
Top right is the blend control. This is a blend control for the level of the wet effect into your dry signal. It’s the final mix of volume overall to dictate how prominent the effect will be in your tone.
Straight to the Point
The Aqua-Puss Smalls mk.III is a no nonsense, practical slap back delay. More textural and rhythmic than spacey and abstract in intent. It’s a perfectly formed tool for generating a slight amount of natural room tone, a rhythmic jangle, or simply as a tonal thickener. The new small enclosure means that it is now available to fit into a much wider array of boards. This pedal is perfect for those who don’t want a jack of all trades, but instead, a master of one.
