Yamaha YDP164 Digital Piano in Satin Black
The Yamaha YDP164 is the flagship model in the Yamaha Arius range of digital pianos. Combining a very high-quality keyboard action, the sound of the CFX concert grand, plus an upgraded speaker system, the YDP-164 is a cut above the lower range YDP models.
See & Play the YDP164 in our Piano Showrooms
Bonners keeps the YDP164 on display in all three of our piano stores which are located in Surrey (Reigate), Milton Keynes and Eastbourne (East Sussex). All locations have plenty of on-site parking and you can compare the YDP164 with pianos from other manufacturers to make sure that you are making the right choice when buying a new piano.
The YDP164 offers features which were only ever available in Yamaha's higher-priced Clavinova series. The GH3 action is a tried & tested favourite, and the bigger amplification/speaker configuration makes this piano sound much more full-bodied than the lower YDP144 model.
Authentic Keyboard Feel
A traditional acoustic grand piano has 88 keys and the YDP164 is exactly the same! Furthermore, the Yamaha Graded Hammer 3 (GH3) keyboard is slightly heavier in the lower registers and lighter in the upper octaves - again just like a grand piano. The keytops have a textured surface to prevent fingers from slipping during a performance and have a feel which is akin to the ebony and ivory surfaces found on older acoustic pianos.
The Sound Of The Yamaha CFX Concert Grand
A digital piano produces the sound which is derived from a recording of an acoustic piano - this is known as 'sampling'. Yamaha has recorded the sound of their full size 9' concert grand piano known as the CFX. This recording provides the piano tone produced by the YDP164 and combined with an excellent amplification system, the result is stunning.
As well as the standard CFX piano voice, there are two other variations on this tone which are ideally suited for playing different styles of music. The Mellow Grand tone is great for romantic classics, whilst the Bright Piano is perfect for Jazz & Pop piano pieces.
More Than Just A Piano!
As well as the CFX piano sounds, the YDP164 is equipped with a number of other useful keyboard & orchestral tones which can be combined (layered) to create a huge variety of combinations. A total of 10 voices include e.piano, strings, harpsichord, organs and vibraphone.
Grand Piano Pedal Experience
There are three foot pedals on the YDP164 which operate the same as those found on a traditional acoustic grand piano. Sustain, sostenuto and soft pedals. The sustain pedal also allows for half-damping
Enhanced Headphone Output
For many people, the attraction of a digital piano is the ability to practice using headphones - this means you can enjoy the instrument without disturbing others in your household or neighbouring properties. The headphone output of the YDP164 is further enhanced with the use of the Stereophonic Optimizer. This provides a more special experience when using headphones and the sound appears to be coming from the body of the piano rather than straight out of the earphones.
Connectivity To Smart Devices & Computers
The standard USB connection is perfect for connecting to a computer for use with your favourite recording or score writing software. Alternatively, this socket can be used to plug into your iOS / Android tablet or mobile phone to make use of the many hundreds of music-making apps on the market. A popular choice of App is Yamaha's own Smart Pianist which facilitates the easy operation of the piano functions through the touchscreen of your portable device.
Onboard Recording & Metronome
The YDP164 features an onboard recording facility which is two-track. This means you can either use it for overdub style recording with two different voices or for practising difficult musical passages by recording both hands independently - a way that many piano teachers encourage students to learn new pieces.
