Second Hand 1972 Fender Jazz Bass, 3 Tone Sunburst, Rosewood, (VG) S/N 361328 8.8lb We have for sale, an absolute gem of a Bass Guitar. An all original, 1 owner since new 1972 Fender Jazz Bass. This is, without a doubt the nicest bass we have ever had on sale at Bonners. It's been brilliantly looked after and is in wonderful condition. It even comes with the original purchase receipt as well as a few sets of vintage strings from the era. It's incredibly lightweight for a 70s bass and it plays perfectly. It gives you all of the rich midrange growl and sweet brightness that you would expect from an early 70s Jazz Bass. Why have a reissue when you can have the real thing? An absolute workhorse of a Bass that has been rocking shows for the last 47 years and is ready for the next. As with many basses from the early 70s, there are no dates on the neck heel or body neck pocket. Pots are dated 22nd week of 1972. Features This 72’ Fender Jazz Bass features a beautiful bound Rosewood fingerboard with block inlays as well as an Alder body in a stunning 3 tone Sunburst finish. 72’ Jazz Basses still feature the more desirable 4 bolt neck as well as the classic, Grey Bobbin pickups. The Bridge and Saddles are all original and it features the long G Saddle screw which is a typical feature of late 60s, early 70s Fender Basses. The bass also features the ‘R’ logo tuners which were introduced in late 1972. The original thumb rest, pickup cover and the Ashtray bridge cover with foam mute are all present as well as the non-Fender hard case that was bought around the same time as the Bass by the original owner. Everything, down to the last screw on this Bass is original. Condition This 47 year old instrument is in remarkable condition for it age. In fact, I have seen Roadworn and Custom Shop Fenders with fewer dings and chips. In terms of vintage grading, we would label this bass as ‘Very Good’. It's completely unmodified with only one solder joint touched. The hardware has aged beautifully and although slightly worn, it does still maintain some shine. The body has dings and chips around the edges of the body as you would expect from a vintage instrument that's been played but well looked after and the finish has started to naturally age and check in a very tasteful way. As expected, there is a bit of buckle rash on the back of the body. The back of the neck is in great shape showing wear only on the edge where your hand supports the neck and only up to around the 7th fret. At the 1st fret on the G string side, the Rosewood fingerboard has slightly expanded which has caused a slight bulge. This is fairly common for instruments of this age. Our technician has reglued the binding around this area to ensure that its completely stable and when playing this bulge is unnoticeable. The truss rod works perfectly and the Bass has been perfectly set up in-house with Ernie Ball Regular Slinky Bass Strings to a medium action. The frets were also dressed at this time and do still have plenty of life left in them. The Fender Jazz Bass First introduced in 1960, the Fender Jazz Bass was marketed as the new ‘deluxe’ bass in the Fender range. The Precision Bass had put electric basses on the map however some people found the single pickup design quite limiting. As music developed so did people's ideas on different sounds. The Jazz Bass answered this with it's front and back pickups. The neck pickup gave you the fullness that was famous with the P Bass and the new bridge pick gave players a new upper-midrange growl that would cut through any mix. The independent volume controls for each pickup allowed the musician to dial in any tone they could think of. The offset shape gave the player the option to play easily while sat down and the narrower nut width allowed people of all shapes and sizes to be able to play without limitation. The new sounds of the Jazz Bass became a crucial ingredient in the development of funk and disco. The Jazz Bass went underwent a few minor changes in the first few years, particularly to the way the electronics were laid out and its muting system. It received its first major makeover when CBS took over Fender and added the famous binding and block inlays in 1966. In 1973 Fender replaced the 4 bolt neck with the 3 bolt system.
