Yamaha MODX7 Music Synthesizer

The MODX7 features the same groundbreaking technology that you'll find in the flagship MONTAGE keyboards; AWM2 sample/synthesis engine, plus pure FM-X for creating unique, modern synth sounds with immense clarity.

MODX7 is an instrument which is truly amazing at generating both familiar acoustic instrument sounds, as well as rich evolving synth sounds that will inspire your creativity. If you need a great all-round instrument for many genres of music, which also excels at film-production and modern dance tones, this is the keyboard for you!

The Yamaha MODX-7 is game changer for the mid price synth keyboard market. We have never before seen such a high-spec instrument at this price point, and available with the very popular 76 note keyboard length - weighing just 7.4kg.

Layered Sounds Are The Heart Of MODX7
Each MODX7 preset is actually a layer of multiple sounds known as a Performance. A performance consists of up to 8 parts, each producing a sound which can be layered or split across the keyboard. The resulting sound can then be manipulated using Motion Control…….

Motion Control Synthesis Engine with 'Super Knob'
Motion control synthesis was first featured on MONTAGE and now it has found itself a home in this more affordable instrument. Motion control is unique to Yamaha and allows you to craft new evolving sound textures in real-time by using the Super Knob to change multiple parameters with one smart controller, as well as the Motion Sequencer and Envelope Follower functions. The super knob can be controlled by foot using the optional Yamaha FC7 expression pedal.

Motion Sequences Explained
Motion Sequences allow you to tempo-sync synth parameter changes such as filter cutoff which change over time. You can use multi-track motion sequences for creating complex, evolving sound textures, never heard before. Panel controls allow you to manipulate motion sequences in real time.

What Is The Envelope Follower?
The envelope follower allows the MODX7 to use an audio source (such as drum loop) and converts the shape of the audio wave into a source for controlling multiple synthesizer or effects parameters.

This might all sound complicated, but in practice it's actually fairly easy to understand and you can create some really cool sounds with the Yamaha MODX.

7" TFT Color Wide VGA LCD touch screen
The MODX is fitted with the same size colour touch screen interface that you'll find on the MONTAGE.

Live Sets - Quick Access To Your Sounds For the Performing Musician
The MODX can has a library of over 5120 performances (known as patches or presets on other instruments), plus internal storage for 640 of your own. The Live Set feature allows you to pull together the sounds you need for a gig or individual song into one place, and save them ready for instant recall. You can create 2048 of your own Live Sets, which is more than enough for even the busiest musician on the road, or in the studio.

Multichannel USB Audio Interface, 2-in/10-out
Connect MODX to your computer with a single USB cable and send both audio and MIDI data simultaneously. The MODX7 features a built-in 2in/10-out USB audio interface so you can directly record to computer it's internal sounds plus the sound of two external audio inputs such as guitar and vocals. This is compatible with all major music softwares (DAW's) and the in-depth onboard controllers allow you to playback and control your computer software from the front panel.

  • Finance Options

Start owning the musical instrument you want now, today!

If you're set on buying your new instrument, there's no need to get weighed down by the total cost of it straight away. If you break it down into monthly payments over time, it's much more manageable than you might think. And our fixed interest rates mean you'll know exactly what you're paying from the start.

    How To Apply For Finance

    How it works

The finance options available are displayed on the individual product pages.

Finance is available for selected new and used instruments.

    Which Finance Options Are Available?

    Processing Time

With most applications we expect that you will be given an acceptance or decline decision within 10-20 seconds. In some cases the lender may return the decision as ‘referred’. You will then receive an email with further instructions once the underwriters have made a decision. Underwriting hours are between 8am and 8pm, Monday to Friday (excluding Bank holidays), 9am and 6pm on Saturday, and 10am and 5pm on Sunday. Please note that the lender is unable to discuss this over the telephone due to Data Protection rules. You should also note that each lender applies its own credit score to applicants so if you have recently been accepted for credit elsewhere this does not necessarily mean that appealing the decision on this basis alone will result in a change of decision.

This instrument gained a reputation for being the go-to keyboard for huge evolving synth pad textures. The Wavestation incorporated a technology called Wave Sequencing - where short segments of sampled waveforms could be played in sequence and crossfaded to create complex, evolving sounds which were inspirational to many musicians including artists such as Jan Hammer, Genesis, Vangelis, Orbital, Depeche Mode and Toto. The Wavestation had 2MB of PCM ROM samples from which to create your wave sequences, and also featured a Vector joystick for realtime animation of sounds. Wave sequencing was expanded with the introduction of future Korg instruments such as the Wavestation EX, AD and SR, but in 1994, Korg discontinued the product line and no other synths have ever matched the excitement of the Wavestation's unique, evolving sounds. Until now Korg Wavestate Wavestate introduces a more powerful form of synthesis called Wavesequencing 2.0. Packed into a small-footprint 37-key instrument, the Wavestate is the low cost, reliable way to add the very best Wavesequencing sounds to your setup. And it's even more powerful than any previous Wavesequencing keyboard. I was just a teenager when the Wavestation appeared in my local music store and I still remember the excitement and inspiration felt when playing the preset sounds 30 years ago! As well as enjoying the new huge textured sounds, layers and effects, I am pleased to say some of the iconic Wavestation presets are present too! This will no doubt be the number one choice for composers of film & gaming atmospheres, as well as musicians who create ethereal & relaxation music. Tony White - Pro Keyboard Specialist Wavestate Features At A Glance Wave Sequencing 2.0 Extensive modulation with hands-on control Gigabytes of samples Modelled filters, including MS-20 and Polysix 64 stereo voices 4 Layers with Vector control 14 simultaneous effects Set Lists and Smooth Sound Transitions Randomization Compact. Great design. 37 full-size keys. Designed by Korg R&D in California About Wave Sequencing 2.0 With the Wavestation, each step of a Wave Sequence had a duration, a sample, and a pitch. This created ear-catching patternsbut the patterns repeated the same way, over and over. What if they could evolve in organic, unexpected ways, instead of just repeating? Wave Sequencing 2.0 splits apart the timing, the sequence of samples, and the melody, so that each can be manipulated independently. Also added are new characteristics including shapes, gate times, and step sequencer values. Each of these is a Lane, and each Lane can have a different number of steps and its own start, end, and loop points. Every time the sequence moves forward, the individual Lanes are combined to create the output. For instance, a sample may be matched with a different duration, pitch, shape, gate length, and step sequence value every time that it plays. You can modulate each Lanes start, end, and loop points separately for every note, using velocity, LFOs, envelopes, Mod Knobs, or other controllers. Each note in a chord can be playing something different! Lanes can also randomize the step order every time they play, with realtime control over the range of included steps. Finally, individual steps can be randomly skipped, with a modulatable probability from 0 to 100%. The result is organic, ever-changing sounds that respond to your control. The four onboard arpeggiators can interact with Wave Sequences for even more possibilities. Easily expressive. Exceptionally deep. Bursting with knobs and controllers, the Wavestate invites you to explore. All of the basicsfilter, envelopes, LFOs, effectsare at your fingertips with dedicated front-panel controls. Eight programmable Mod Knobs are customized to bring out the most in every sound, often taking them in entirely new directions. Use the knobs in realtime performance, and also save the results as new sounds. Add in the Pitch Bend and Modulation Wheels and the unique Vector Joystick, and youll always have multiple dimensions of realtime expression. Want to dig deeper? Almost all front-panel knobs, and most on-screen parameters, can be modulated. You can even modulate settings for individual Wave Sequence Steps! Mod Processors let you transform modulation signals using quantization, smoothing, curvature, and more. Randomization that inspires. Looking for even more inspiration? A dedicated front-panel button, marked by a dice icon, generates new sounds via intelligent randomization. Randomize the entire sound or just a part of it, such as the filter, the Sample Lane, or the effects. Use the results directly, or as a jumping-off point for your own creations. Ample samples. 64 stereo voices. Totaling in the gigabytes, the wavestates sample library is more than a thousand times larger than that of the original Wavestation. Thats a lot of great-sounding raw material for Wave Sequences. Theres a bank of samples from Plugin Guru, brand-new samples from KORG, and a selection from the Kronos and Krome libraries. Of course, KORG also provides all of the Wavestations samples (including all options), plus a huge library of Wavestation Wave Sequences. Play up to 64 stereo voices with pristine clarity, using KORGs proprietary anti-aliasing sample playback technology. Choose your filter. Add vintage character to your sounds with the aggressive MS-20 Lowpass or Highpass filters, or the strong, sweet Polysix Lowpass. Shape and refine with a full collection of resonant 2-pole and 4-pole Lowpass, Highpass, Bandpass, and Band Reject filters. Or, step outside the box with KORGs unique Multi Filter, which creates modulatable blends of multiple modes simultaneously. Multiply by four. With all of that synthesis power, you might think the wavestate would play only one sound at a time. Not a chance. For even more rich and complex results, layer up to four Programs together in a Performanceeach with their own effects and arpeggiator. The Vector Envelope and Joystick mix the individual voices of the four Layers, and can also modulate any other parameters. An arsenal of effects. The wavestates superb effects deliver production-ready sounds. Each Layer has three dedicated effects; additionally, the Performance has a master reverb and parametric EQ. Along with standards such as compressors, EQs, choruses, flangers, phasers, and stereo delays, youll find distinctive processors such as the Wave Shaper, Talking Modulator, Reverse Delay, Multiband Mod Delay, and Overb (from the OASYS), plus modeled effects including VOX guitar amps, VOX wah, multi-head tape echo, and a collection of classic guitar pedals. Set Lists and Smooth Sound Transitions. Set Lists offer effortless organization of your wavestate Performances, and deliver instant access at the gig or in rehearsal. Smooth Sound Transitions allow previously-played voices and effects to continue to ring out naturally, even once a new sound has been selected. Plays well with others. Balanced stereo outputs connect to any recording or monitoring system, and a stereo headphone output is provided for private playing or onstage cueing. Din-style MIDI jacks ensure connection to other MIDI-equipped instruments and audio gear. The wavestate supports class-compliant USB MIDI connections to Windows and Mac computers, and the wavestate librarian program is available as free download from KORG. Designed by KORG R&D in California. KORG R&D created the original Wavestation, co-created the OASYS and Kronos, and has developed fundamental technologies behind many other KORG instruments. The wavestate reflects their unique aesthetic, delivering stunning sound and deep flexibility via cutting-edge technologies. Three of the key sound designers from the original Wavestation, John Bowen, John Skippy Lehmkuhl (Plugin Guru), and Peter Ski Schwartz, joined Belgian artist Airwave and the renowned KORG voicing team to create the incredible wavestate sound library.
