The new Yamaha PSR-SX900 and PSR-SX700 keyboards represent phenomenal value for money. Based on the flagship Genos Workstation , these two new models are loaded with features which are a first in this price category. This guide is intended to highlight the differences between the models and allows you to make an informed buying decision as to which is the best keyboard for you.

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN YAMAHA PSR-SX700 & PSR-SX900
On first glance both keyboards look very similar, with the same high resolution touchscreen joystick controller etc, but there are some distinct differences between the two keyboards which may affect which one is the best for your needs.
Voices: Firstly, the PSR-SX700 has 986 standard voices and of these 131 are the high quality Super Articulation voices. The PSR-SX900 has 1337 voices, of which 252 are Super Articulation. Super Articulation voices are the ones which respond and emulate the behaviour of a traditional acoustic instrument depending on the player's keyboard technique.
Effects: Both the PSR-SX700 and PSR-SX900 are equipped with 322 Preset effects (plus Reverb & Chorus). The PSR-SX900 has the added benefit of Yamaha's Virtual Circuit Modelling (VCM) which recreates the sound of high-end studio effects such as compressors, EQ, Rotary speakers etc.
Vocal Harmony The PSR-SX900 has a built in mic input with Vocal Harmoniser, which adds authentic vocal harmonies to your performance. The PSR-SX700 doesn't have a mic input or Vocal effects.
PRESET STYLES: The PSR-SX700 is equipped with 400 preset styles, compared with 525 styles on the PSR-SX900. It must be noted that the quality of the styles on both keyboards is equal to that of the flagship Genos Keyboard Workstation.
Whilst we're talking about styles, the PSR-SX900 has 463 Pro, 46 Session, 6 Free Play, 10 DJ styles, vs the PSR-SX700 which has 353 Pro, 34 Session, 3 Free Play, 10 DJ/
CHORD LOOPER: The PSR-SX900 has Yamaha's new Chord Looper function which allows you to record a sequence of chords in realtime and loop them so you can practice or 'jam' over the top. The Yamaha PSR-SX700 does not have this feature.
EXPANSION MEMORY: It's a great feature to be able to customise your keyboard by downloading voices and styles from the Yamaha Musicsoft website. The PSR-SX700 has 400MB of available space to install additional voices, as opposed to the 1GB found on the Yamaha PSR-SX900. In addition to this, the PSR-SX900 allows the installation of Audio Styles (the PSR-SX700 doesn't recognise Audio Styles.
MULTI PADS: Both keyboards have the popular Multipads function where you can fire off loops and event audio files to add variety and enhance your performance. The PSR-SX900 has 329 Multipad banks, compared with the 226 banks found on the PSR-SX700.
BLUETOOTH: The PSR-SX900 has Bluetooth connectivity for streaming music from your smart device through the speaker system. The PSR-SX700 doesn't have any bluetooth connectivity.
DISPLAY OUTPUT: The display output of the PSR-SX900 can be output through an external monitor using a commercially available USB adaptor. The PSR-SX700 doesn't allow its display to be output.
AUDIO OUTPUTS: Both instruments have ¼" jack outputs for connection to an external amplification system, and the SX-900 is also fitted with an additional pair of SUB OUTPUTS to give greater flexibility when working on stage or in the studio.
USB DEVICE PORTS: The PSR-SX900 has two USB to device ports compared with the single port found on the Yamaha PSR-SX700.
SOUND SYSTEM: The PSR-SX900 has a 50w sound system (15w + 10w x 2) for a MASSIVE SOUND! The PSR-SX700's sound system is total 30watts (15w x 2). The PSR-SX900 speaker configuration is slightly different with the use of dome speakers for a fuller, enhanced sound.
