Kawai Piano History

The Kawai Piano company was founded by Koichi Kawai in Japan 1886. Koichi was employed by Torakusu Yamaha as an apprentice to help him build his first Yamaha upright pianos. In 1927 Koichi left Yamaha (after it had been taken over by Nippon Gakki Co.) and founded his own Kawai piano company with the goal of producing superior quality pianos within the same price as their competitors.

In 2017, Kawai celebrated their 90th year of piano manufacturing, and are the second largest manufacturer of pianos in the World. The quality of their instruments never ceases to amaze us here at Bonners. Much of the craftsmanship in their pianos is finished by hand, and their flagship Shigeru range are almost 100% entirely handmade by master craftsmen.

Kawai remains a family run, extremely reputable Japanese manufacturer of quality pianos. Bonners staff have visited the Kawai piano factory in Hamamatsu, Japan and seen for ourselves the outstanding passion and quality of workmanship that goes in to producing fine pianos that will be part of your family for many generations.

Kawai Millenium 3 Piano Action

The K200, and all models above this are equipped with the Kawai Millenium 3 action, which contains parts made of carbon composite. This action is more sensitive and delivers more power and expression than a traditional wooden piano action. The composite parts are also longer-lasting and less susceptible to changes in temperature and humidity, meaning your piano should require less maintenance and regulation.

Kawai K15E Upright Piano

The current Kawai upright piano model range starts with the entry level K15. Unlike other entry level pianos on the market, the Kawai K15 features a solid spruce soundboard which results in this model having a sound that is unbelievable at this price point. The K15 has a full length 88 note keyboard, but is a smaller cabinet piano (standing just 110cm high) and is popular in modern houses where a less intrusive instrument Is required. You can see the Kawai K15 in Bonners piano showroom in Reigate, Surrey, and should be considered alongside the similar sized Yamaha B1 model.

Kawai K200 Upright Piano

If you are looking for a piano with more traditional styling, the K200 is the first model in the Kawai piano range to feature the front leg. This model is also fitted with castors to simplify moving the instrument if required. Kawai K200 is slightly taller than the K15 model at 114cm, which results in longer bass strings that give a fuller depth of sound. The K200 is available for you to try alongside other models such as the Yamaha B2 and Feurich 115 Premiere Model in our Surrey piano shop.

Kawai K300 Upright Piano

The K300 is a 122cm high upright piano and with increased string length and cabinet volume, delivers a full-bodied tone at a very reasonable price. This piano is on display and ready to play in our Surrey Piano Shop. We would suggest you also try the Yamaha B3 and Feurich 122 Universal models for a comparison at a similar price.

Kawai K500 Upright Piano

The K500 is a beautifully constructed upright piano that is made in Kawai's piano factory in Hamamatsu, Japan. This model is 130cm tall, and is a viable alternative to the Yamaha U1 or Feurich 125 Design models, all of which can be seen in our Reigate piano shop.

Kawai K600 Upright Piano

If you're looking for an alternative to the Yamaha U3 model, the Kawai K600 is the perfect option! Standing at 134cm high, the K600 brings the best of Kawai's upright piano manufacturing together in a beautiful, rich sounding instrument that is perfect for serious beginners and advanced pianists alike. The K600 gives exceptional performance for the most demanding of pieces and will easily cope with Grade 8 & above level pianists. See this beautiful instrument in our Surrey piano shop and compare with the Feurich 133 and Yamaha U3 models.
