Dexibell Classico L4 vs Classico L3

What's New and Should You Upgrade?

When Dexibell introduced the Classico L3, it quickly became one of the most impressive portable classical organs on the market. It combined authentic pipe organ sounds with orchestral voices in a lightweight instrument that appealed equally to church musicians, educators and performers.

The new Classico L4 builds on that success with a number of significant improvements. While the keyboard, amplifier power and overall design remain familiar, the sound library, registration system and connectivity have all taken a considerable step forward.

Here's a closer look at what's changed.

What's Stayed the Same?

Dexibell has wisely kept many of the strengths of the L3.

Both models feature:

  • 76-note velocity-sensitive keyboard
  • T2L (True to Life) sampling and modelling technology
  • Unlimited polyphony with 320 oscillators
  • 24-bit / 48kHz audio engine
  • 35W + 35W stereo speaker system
  • Seven reverb types
  • Six tremulant types
  • USB audio recorder
  • High-quality orchestral and piano sounds
  • Lightweight 14kg design
  • Identical dimensions

If you already own an L3, you'll immediately feel at home on the L4.

The Biggest Improvements

Twice the Sample Memory

The most significant hardware improvement is the increase from 1.6GB to 3.2GB of waveform memory.

That extra memory allows Dexibell to include many more samples and larger sample sets, resulting in a richer and more detailed sound library.

A Much Larger Sound Library

The increase from 73 to 126 organ voices is substantial.

Rather than simply adding more variations, Dexibell has introduced organ models based on distinct European traditions, including English, French, German, Dutch and Italian instruments.

For church organists and classical performers, this is probably the single biggest improvement.

The orchestral section has also grown dramatically, increasing from 39 to 67 sounds.

Far Better Registration Management

If you regularly play church services or concerts, you'll appreciate the increase from 12 to 32 memory pistons.

Having more registrations available means fewer compromises during performance and less time reprogramming presets between pieces.

Ready for Expansion

One of the most exciting additions is the ability to connect a second manual and pedalboard.

This effectively allows the L4 to become the heart of a much larger organ system, making it attractive for churches, teaching environments and serious home installations.

Bluetooth MIDI

The addition of Bluetooth MIDI is another welcome improvement.

You can now connect wirelessly to apps, notation software and tablets without additional cables, making setup much simpler.

Should You Upgrade?

If you already own the Classico L3, there's certainly no need to panic. It remains an excellent instrument and still delivers superb organ and orchestral sounds.

However, the Classico L4 is much more than a simple refresh.

The larger sound library, double the sample memory, greatly expanded registration system, Bluetooth MIDI, USB digital audio and support for additional manuals all combine to make it a significantly more capable instrument.

For occasional home use, the L3 continues to represent excellent value.

But for regular church organists, music educators and professional performers, the improvements offered by the L4 are substantial enough to make it a genuinely worthwhile upgrade.

Tony's Verdict

I've seen plenty of instruments where a new model arrives with only a handful of cosmetic changes.

This isn't one of them.

Dexibell has clearly listened to feedback from organists and developed an instrument that is faster, more flexible and considerably more powerful than its predecessor.

The Classico L3 was already an excellent portable classical organ.

The Classico L4 takes that concept several steps further and, in my opinion, is now one of the most complete portable classical organ workstations currently available.
