Yamaha AvantGrand N1 Hybrid Digital Piano

Yamaha’s unique AvantGrand Hybrid digital pianos have been causing quite a stir since their launch. Examined and tested by some of the world’s leading pianists, the general consensus is that these are groundbreaking instruments that push the boundaries of what you would normally expect from a digital piano. The family has three members, and the N1 is the baby of the bunch – but don’t let that fool you! This is a serious instrument for people who want to push their musical creativity and expertise to the next level – and at an affordable price.

See The Yamaha AvantGrand N1 Hybrid Digital Piano In One Of Our Specialist Digital Piano Stores

When choosing a new piano, there's nothing better than getting your hands on various instruments to ensure you're making the right choice. We keep the Yamaha AvantGrand N1 Hybrid Digital Piano in both of our specialist piano stores, along with other models from top manufacturers. This means you can compare the sound and feel of a variety of instruments all under one roof. We have showrooms in Reigate (just off Jct 8 of the M25) and also on the South Coast in Eastbourne BN21 3JN. Both our piano shops have parking on-site.

The newest of the Hybrids

The N1 is a free-standing instrument that captures all the quality and depth of a grand in a more confined space. It eliminates the ‘artificial’ feel and timbre that can often be associated with hybrid digital pianos and gives it an authenticity you would expect from a more traditional instrument. Sensitivity and responsiveness is augmented by a host of extra features, including some spatial acoustic sampling that will expand your horizons and challenge your skills as a player.

A combination of acoustic and digital technology

The 88-key layout is familiar to any pianist, but the new technology that accompanies this standard layout is anything but ‘standard’ in return. Yamaha have specialised in utilising the very best in technological developments to create instruments that, while they may not be ‘the real thing’, certainly come a very close second. And this is what makes them so attractive to private individuals who want to develop their playing to a more intermediate/advanced level. It gives them the opportunity to expand their creativity without losing any of the experience of playing a well-balanced and responsive instrument that has nearly all of the subtle nuances and definition of a grand.

Specialised Grand Piano action

The Yamaha AvantGrand N1 hybrid digital piano hones in on that last point, by creating a specially-developed grand piano action that includes the same configuration as you would find in the action of a genuine grand. Hammers strike the ‘strings’ from beneath, so that you achieve the same reverberation and smooth action that allows you to adjust your playing style to suit the piece – without losing any of the subtitles or affecting your own unique playing style.

The N1 uses a non-contact key sensor that doesn’t restrict the movement of the keys themselves, so that the player’s pressure on each key is perfectly translated into the right musical expression.

Spatial Acoustic Sampling

The unique feature of the AvantGrand series isn’t simply that they are exceptionally fine quality instruments - but that they are innovative too. Thanks to Yamaha’s inspirational act of sampling some of the world’s best grands and then incorporating them into the N1 (and the N2 and N3), the AvantGrand series now recreates a truly authentic grand sound with all the depth and timbre of a genuine instrument. Strategically-positioned speakers deliver an immersive sound experience, although the N1 also comes with free headphones if you prefer to practice in solitude!

Yamaha AvantGrand N2 Hybrid Digital Piano

Yamaha have certainly pushed the boundaries of excellence when it comes to digital/acoustic hybrid pianos, and at the top of their range are the AvantGrand digital pianos. In this family of three superior pianos sits the N2, a futuristic digital instrument that also holds on to its identity as a grand.

Outstanding quality, superior sound

The AvantGrand N2 Hybrid digital piano’s greatest asset has to be the quality of the sound. Normally, digital instruments – no matter how well made – tend to sound ‘digital’, losing that warmth and depth of sound, range and timbre that you get with a traditional instrument that relies on a hammer system. However, because Yamaha have incorporated exceptional quality speakers into the soundboard itself, and retained a unique specialised grand piano action, the result is a well-rounded sound that responds to the touch of the pianist, whether the piece calls for bombastic energy or the subtlest of touches.

The Specialized Grand Piano Action in more detail

So how does it work? Well, rather than moving away from the benefits of a traditional grand, the digital N2 incorporates them into its structure to give the player a fully authentic experience. The action features the same configuration as a grand, as well as a full 88-key keyboard.

The hammers strike the ‘strings’ from underneath, so that tiny weight distribution adjustments affect the motion of the hammers themselves, creating that authentic ‘grand’ sound. This results in a much smoother feel too, and a more responsive keyboard that allows the player to transfer the nuances and subtle adjustments that classical music calls for.

In addition to the hammer sensor, it also uses a non-contact key sensor that doesn’t impede on the action of the keys, but enhances the sensitivity of the instrument to the touch of the player. The AvantGrand N2 is definitely focused around the player experience, granting enhanced feedback for a more immersive playing sensation.

Tactile Response

The advantage of a digital instrument over a traditional acoustic one is that you have the opportunity to embellish the instrument with a wealth of features, and in this aspect the N2 doesn’t disappoint. The N2 includes various piano sounds, as was as a four-channel, multi-speaker system. The integral use of the soundboard ensures that the resonance of the bass notes in particular, reverberates through the instrument and the player’s body, so you can literally ‘feel’ the music for a superior experience.

The Tactile Response System (TRS) is unique to the Yamaha range and focuses on reproducing this reverberation effect to its fullest. It does it by using two transducers in the soundboard, so that the reverberation is transmitted directly back to the keys and consequently to the fingers of the player. It also sends the reverberations down through the instrument so that the player will also experience them when they depress the pedals, creating an authentic playing experience.

Because the system is a haptic vibration feedback system that’s calibrated to the note frequencies, the effect is much more realistic. This is what puts the AvantGrand range above the majority of digital pianos – the authenticity of the playing experience. It’s literally as close to the real thing as you can get without actually lifting the lid on a genuine acoustic grand!

Never out of tune

One of the major advantages of a digital instrument is that, unlike its acoustic cousins, it never goes out of tune. So for intermediate home players who want consistency of tone and sound, it’s a winner. The N2 is also relatively compact compared to a full grand – you don’t need a mansion to house an N2, making it ideal for home use. However, it has a depth and richness of timbre that makes it perfectly acceptable for performance playing as well. Put simply, the N2 may be the ‘middle child’ of the AvantGrand range, but it’s probably one of the most versatile instruments on the market today.

Additional features

At Bonners, we’re delighted to be able to offer discerning customers access to the AvantGrand N2 Hybrid digital piano, which comes with a matching adjustable height piano stool, free headphones for those private practice sessions, and a 5-year warranty for total peace of mind. Our specially trained team will also deliver and install the piano to your home address.

A player’s piano

The N2 is very much a player’s piano, designed to enhance the experience of playing, whether your passion is jazz and contemporary or traditional classical music. With MIDI and USB connections and a comprehensive library to call upon, it also allows you to experiment and push the limits of your creativity. If you want to take your music to the next level, the N2 doesn’t just allow you to expand your skills, it positively encourages you to do so!

Yamaha AvantGrand N3x Hybrid Digital Grand Piano

With the new AvantGrand N3x, Yamaha have bridged the gap between acoustic and digital pianos. It has long been said that the infinite expression players feel when performing on an acoustic piano is not possible to re-create with a digital instrument. Enter the new AvantGrand N3x from Yamaha. Here at Bonners, our staff believe this is simply the very best digital piano they have ever played.

Keyboard Action

The N3x features real wooden keys with Ivorite keytops – these keys look and feel just like those found on acoustic instruments. The key action is taken from Yamaha’s exquisite range of concert grand pianos, to give you the same response and expression as an acoustic piano. The key weighting is exactly the same as than found on a grand piano, and the non-contact optical sensors ensure that the electronics do not interfere with the performance of the instrument in any way.

Sound

The N3x features two world-class pianos in one instrument – each with its own character and identity for different styles and music tastes. Starting with the superb Yamaha CFX Concert Grand, this piano has a beautiful, crystal clear tone across the range – sparkling highs and deep, resonant bass tones. The second instrument featured in the N3x is the mighty Bosendorfer Imperial. The Imperial is a beautifully expressive, warm voiced piano and sounds wonderful for romantic classical performances.

Both of these excellent piano sounds are further enhanced through the four-channel Spatial Acoustic Speaker System and Soundboard Resonator located beneath the music rest. Unique to the N3x is the speaker placement. Yamaha engineers have cleverly positioned the speakers in the same places as the microphones were placed when recording the source piano sound. This results in the player receiving the closest possible recreation of an acoustic piano.

Tactile Response System

The Tactile Reposnse System enhances the physical sensation that the player feels when performing on the N3x digital grand piano. Acoustic pianos feel “alive” and the player subconsciously feels vibrations and resonance through their fingertips and even the pedals. The TRS recreates these feelings through the use of tiny electronic motors that vibrate in accordance with the tone of the piano. We recommend that you try this feature for yourself – it’s extremely effective and it even works when headphones are in use too!

Record Your Performance

The on-board audio recorder allows you to record your performance in beautiful uncompressed WAV format, direct to a USB flash drive. Listen to your playing through the on-board speaker system or share the WAV file with your friends, family, or even upload them to your favourite digital music sharing website.

World Class Concert Grand Piano Sounds

The NU1x produces authentic recreations of two World-class concert grand pianos. The Yamaha CFX sound is renowned for it’s beautifully clear top and powerful bass registers. Quite simply, the NU1x is capable of producing a concert level performance of any musical style or genre.

Pedals That Respond Just Like A Grand Piano

The damper pedal in the NU1x offers the same subtle changes in resistance that are experienced when playing a grand piano. Half-pedalling is also possible which gives the player the ability to control the sustain and reverberation in detail.

If you are serious about your piano playing, the NU1x is ideal to take you up to grade 8 standard and beyond.

For many people, one of the attraction for purchasing a digital piano is the ability to practice silently through headphones. The NU!x ensures that the experience when playing in headphone mode is just as enjoyable as through the instrument’s own speaker system with the use of Binaural sampling technology, This technology gives the player a surround-sound like experience through normal headphones. Binaural sampling is only available on the CFX piano voice. All other voices are reproduced using standard headphone technology.

Additional Instrument Voices

The NU1x provides a total of 15 instrument voices ranging from acoustic pianos and electronic pianos to harpsichord, organs and string voices. The voices included are as follows: CFX Grand, Binaural CFX Grand, Bösendorfer Imperial, Studio Grand, Ballad Grand, Upright Piano, Stage E.Piano, DX E.Piano, Vintage E.Piano, Harpsichord 8’, Harpsi. 8’+4’, Celesta, Organ Principal, Organ Tutti, Jazz Organ, Piano + Strings

Yamaha NU1x Avantgrand Hybrid Digital Piano; Polished White

The Yamaha NU1x is a digital piano that brings together the high quality piano keyboard action of an acoustic upright piano with the convenient features of a digital piano. The player experiences the feel of playing an acoustic piano, but has a choice of piano and other tones, headphone practice capability, USB audio recording capability and of course the overall physical weight of the instrument is about 50% lighter than that of the smallest upright pianos, making it much easier to move from room to room, or home to home if required.

You can see and try the Yamaha NU1x in our piano showrooms.

We have two stores in the South East of England - one is in Reigate, Surrey (located just off junction 8 of the M25 motorway), and the other is in Eastbourne on the south coast of Sussex. Both of our stores are within walking distance of mainline railway stations, and both have plenty of on-site parking. Call us today on 01323 639335 to ensure the NU1x has arrived in the showroom of your choice.

Part Exchange Your Existing Piano For A New NU1x

If you already own an instrument that you would like to part exchange for a Yamaha NU1x then email us details of what you have to partex@bonnersmusic.co.uk. It would help if you could attach some photos to the email, and in the case of acoustic pianos, we also require the serial number. Our part exchange process makes upgrading your piano an easy experience - we deliver your new NU1x and collect your old instrument at the same time. Call us on 01323 639335 if you need any more information about our MU1x part exchange offers.

Authentic Acoustic Piano Type Keyboard Action

The key action found in the Yamaha NU1x utilises many of the same components found in an acoustic piano. The full length wooden keys engage a hammer mechanism, resulting in the same weight and feel as when playing a traditional upright piano. This design results in the player feeling a true connection between their expression and the response of the instrument.

World Class Concert Grand Piano Sounds

The NU1x produces authentic recreations of two World-class concert grand pianos. The Yamaha CFX sound is renowned for it’s beautifully clear top and powerful bass registers. The subtle tone of the Boesendorfer Imperial is ideal for when a more delicate, mellow piano sound is required.

Enhanced Headphone Experience

Record Your Performance

Nothing beats the satisfaction listening back to your own musical performances. The Yamaha NU1x allows the recording of up to 10 songs using the built-in quick record facility in standard MIDI file format. For the times when you want to share your own music with friends & family, there is the USB Audio record feature, which records the audio output of the NU1x in .WAV format (44.1 kHz, 16 bit, stereo). These files can be shared using a USB memory stick in a format which is readable by almost all computers and MP3 type players.

Built-In Preset Songs

The NU1x is supplied with 50 built-in favourite classical songs to show off the wonderful sound of this instrument.

High Quality Amplification System

The sound of the NU1x is delivered using a powerful 90 watt amplification system that drives 4 speakers. Even at low volume, the NU1x has a rich tone and the speaker positioning within the cabinet ensures the player is immersed in the sound.

Connect To The Outside World!

As well as two headphone outputs (for duet or teacher/pupil practice), the NU1x provides stereo AUX outputs via dual standard ¼” jack sockets. There is a 3.5mm stereo mini jack input for playback of external music devices through the NU1x’s speaker system. MIDI in/out is provided with 5 pin din sockets, and there is a direct USB connection to computer. It is also possible to connect a USB memory stick for playback & recording of audio & MIDI files.

Traditional Mini Upright Piano Cabinet Design

To the untrained eye, the NU1x looks like a traditional upright piano. With the front leg design and soft-fall keycover, this piano is pleasing on the eye and sounds superb. There is a nice long music rest for even the largest scores.

Other Useful Features

There is a digital metronome built into the NU1x and the transpose feature allows the pitch to be adjusted for when playing with other instrumentalists or singers. The adjustable reverb effect gives the effect of playing in a large hall or other ambient space.
