Casio CT-S1 76 Review

Building on the success of the standard 61-key CT-S1, the new Casio CT-S1 76 benefits from an extra octave of keys and a higher-powered speaker system, resulting in a lightweight keyboard that packs more of a punch than you first imagine. Ideally suited to both beginners and more experienced players looking for a practical and portable instrument, the Casio CT-S1 76 boasts excellent sound and a satisfyingly straightforward design.

Stand-out piano sounds, multiple voices and reverb effects

The main piano voice is the first thing you hear when you power on the Casio CT-S1 76. And, for such a lightweight keyboard, it produces a truly fantastic sound. In total, the instrument boasts 61 unique instrumental voices, including pianos, electric pianos, organs, strings and even several iconic vintage keyboards from the 1980s and 90s.

The CT-S1 76 features 24 different reverb effects, which add depth and warmth to the sound. Reverb simulates the ambience you hear when playing the piano in different environments, and the keyboard includes several presets, such as a room, hall, stadium, church and cathedral.

Layering voices and finding the right pedal

Players can also layer any two voices, combining the sound of two instruments to create really interesting tonal variations. The handy My Setup function enables you to save your favourite combinations and recall them quickly, with minimal button pushing and menu navigation.

While the CT-S1 76 is a fantastic piano in its own right, I would recommend investing in a suitable pedal - either a small plastic sustain footswitch or a more substantial metal pedal. We offer a CT-S1 bundle deal that includes a single-braced pre-assembled keyboard stand, heavy-duty metal piano sustain pedal and a good quality set of Panasonic branded headphones. Alternatively, you can find various compatible options on our piano pedals page.

An enjoyable feel in a portable design

Playing the CT-S1 76, the quality of the keyboard is instantly noticeable. Not as heavily weighted as a hammer action piano, like those in the Casio PX-S series, the 76 full-size keys still offer much more resistance than a basic child's keyboard and enable you to play with a lot of expression.

That Casio has achieved such a great feel in a keyboard that weighs less than 5kg is seriously impressive. Couple this with the fact that the CT-S1 76 can operate on mains or battery power, making it wonderfully versatile, and it could be an ideal keyboard for a semi-pro musician who is always on the move or regularly takes their instrument on public transport.

Fantastic core features and impressive sound

Equipped with Casio’s AiX Sound Source, the CT-S1 76 guarantees high-quality sound output. It is also equipped with plenty of extra features and functionalities. An interesting Surround Sound feature adds great depth and space to the sound and works nicely on the acoustic piano voices. You can switch it on and off easily, but it only works through the built-in speakers.

The CT-S1 76 metronome is a valuable practice aid and can be programmed according to 16 different beat variations, while an on-board record function enables you to listen back to your performance and play along or review them.

Wired and wireless connectivity

An AUX input is positioned on the rear of the keyboard, providing a means to connect external devices and play audio through the CT-S1 76's speaker system. Perfect for playing along with your favourite tunes or backing tracks, it is also useful if you use an online tuition app and want to improve the quality of the audio playback.

Regarding apps, the CT-S1 76 is compatible with the Casio Music Space app, which allows you to access all voices and settings via your IOS or Android device’s touchscreen. You can connect your device using a USB cable. Alternatively, you can purchase the Casio BT-10 Bluetooth adaptor separately and connect the app to the piano wirelessly.

A simple and well-executed design

Not as complex or feature-packed as larger, more advanced and more expensive keyboards, the CT-S1 76’s straightforward design is reflected in the simplicity of its control panel. Consisting of just a few buttons, it is stripped-back and easy to use, making navigating the features and various piano voices quick and fuss-free.

The CT-S1 76 is available in black or white colour options and is supplied with a music book rest and mains power supply. You can find details of our special package bundles and offers on the product page.
