Kawai Novus NV6 Hybrid Piano

Kawai Novus NV6 Hybrid Piano

£7,999

£7,999

The Kawai Novus NV6 is the most convincing hybrid upright piano I’ve ever played. It combines the true touch of a real Millennium III action with the expressive depth of Kawai’s latest SK-EX piano sounds, delivered through an upgraded multi-speaker system that fills the room like an acoustic instrument. Add in modern connectivity, slim elegant design, and the reassurance of Kawai’s build quality, and you have a piano that feels every bit as inspiring as a fine acoustic, but with all the flexibility of digital.

Tony White - Bonners Digital Piano Expert

Kawai Novus NV6 Hybrid Piano – Who is it for?

The Kawai Novus NV6 Hybrid Piano is designed for pianists who want the feel of a real acoustic piano, but with the flexibility of digital.

If you’re practising at home, need silent playing with headphones, or want a premium upright-style instrument without the maintenance of a traditional piano, the NV6 could be exactly what you're looking for.

It’s particularly well suited to:

  • Advancing players who care about touch and control
  • Homes where volume needs to be managed
  • Pianists moving from digital to something more realistic

If your priority is a traditional acoustic piano, we’d always recommend trying both options in store. The NV6 appeals to players who want that acoustic feel, but with far more flexibility day to day.

If you’re still weighing up different types of digital and hybrid pianos, you can also view our full digital piano comparison guide to see how models like the NV6 fit into the wider market.

What does the NV6 actually feel like to play?

This is where the NV6 stands apart from standard digital pianos.

It uses Kawai’s Millennium III upright piano action, meaning you’re playing on real wooden keys with the same mechanism found in an acoustic upright. The response is far closer to a traditional piano than anything you’ll find in a typical digital instrument.

From a playing perspective, that gives you:

  • Greater control over dynamics
  • A more natural repetition speed
  • A familiar feel if you’re used to acoustic pianos

NV6 vs NV5 / NV5S / NV12 – what’s the difference?

If you’re considering the Kawai Novus NV6, it’s useful to understand how it sits alongside both the previous NV5 / NV5S models and the flagship NV12.

Kawai NV6 vs NV5 / NV5S

The NV5 and NV5S were already excellent hybrid pianos, but the NV6 brings a number of  upgrades, especially in sound, connectivity and usability.

Key improvements include:

  • New Shigeru Kawai SK-EX Competition Grand piano sound
  • Improved multi-channel SK-EX Rendering piano engine
  • Reworked audio system with premium dual DACs
  • New top-facing drivers, upgraded tweeters and refined soundboard speaker
  • Matte anti-glare cheekblock touchscreen
  • Option for the screen to switch off during playing
  • Bluetooth MIDI and Audio version 5
  • USB-C audio interface for direct recording
  • Slightly more compact cabinet with improved rigidity

So, while the NV5 and NV5S remain very capable instruments, the NV6 feels like a true next-generation model, particularly for players who want better sound detail, modern recording options and a more refined user experience. See all the Novus pianos we have in stock.

For a broader view of how hybrid pianos compare with other digital instruments, see our full digital piano comparison guide.

Kawai NV6 vs NV12

The NV6 is the upright-style model in the current Novus range, while the NV12 is the flagship model with a grand piano action.

Choose the NV6 if you want the feel of a real upright piano action, excellent sound quality, silent practice and a more practical cabinet size.

Choose the NV12 if you want the closest possible experience to a grand piano in a hybrid digital format.

For many homes, the NV6 will be the more practical choice. For players who specifically want the grand action experience, the NV12 is the natural step up.

NV6 Features at a Glance

  • Millennium III Hybrid upright piano action with real damper mechanism

  • New SK-EX Competition Grand & SK-EX Concert Grand piano voices

  • Enhanced multi-speaker system with TwinDrive soundboard speakers

  • Bluetooth MIDI & Audio v5 plus USB-C with built-in audio interface

  • Slim, elegant cabinet design – just 46 cm deep

Where the NV6 works best

The NV6 is a popular choice for:

  • Home practice where volume control matters
  • Serious students progressing beyond entry-level instruments
  • Players who want a consistent feel without tuning or maintenance

This is not just a digital piano upgrade; it’s a long-term instrument that can support years of development.

Can I play it with headphones?
Yes, and this is one of its biggest advantages for home use.
