Boss Katana 25 Compact 25W Guitar Amp Combo

A compact 25-watt guitar combo amplifier engineered for practice, home recording, and versatile tone shaping.

The Boss Katana series represents an ongoing effort to bridge the gap between digital versatility and authentic valve responsiveness. Designed to offer professional-grade sound architecture in a portable footprint, the Katana 25 distills Boss's core amplification engineering into an accessible solution tailored for bedroom practice, instructional studios, and small-space rehearsals.

The hardware platform features an optimized open-back cabinet housing a custom 8-inch speaker, powered by a reactive analogue power section driven by Boss Tube Logic technology. Physical interfaces include standard 1/4-inch instrument inputs, a dedicated headphone/recording output, integrated Bluetooth audio streaming, a USB-C interface for direct digital recording, and a clear backlit LCD panel for streamlined parameter navigation.

Amplification & Acoustic Performance

• Tube Logic Architecture: Recreates the dynamic feel, natural sag, and expressive clipping behavior characteristic of traditional valve designs.

• Variable Power Control: Switches between full 25-watt output and a 0.5-watt mode, allowing cranked-amp saturation and harmonic content at conversational volume levels.

• Versatile Voicing Section: Delivers six discrete amplifier characters with variations - ranging from transparent clean and articulate crunch to high-gain Brown sound - plus an optimized acoustic-electric mode for full-range piezos.

DSP Architecture & Modern Connectivity

• Extensive Internal Effects Engine: Access to over 60 integrated Boss studio and pedal effects, supporting up to five simultaneous effects blocks without external hardware.

• Tone Memory Storage: Provides 30 dedicated Tone Setting slots (20 factory presets, 10 user memory banks) for instant preset recall across practice and recording sessions.

• Digital Integration & USB-C: Functions as a low-latency audio interface via USB-C, complemented by Bluetooth for audio streaming and deep sound design via the Boss Tone Studio editor.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the Boss Katana 25 be used for silent practice and direct recording?

Yes. The Katana 25 includes a dedicated 1/4-inch headphone/recording output that mutes the onboard speaker for silent practice. For direct computer or mobile tracking, its class-compliant USB-C connection functions as an audio interface without requiring external hardware.

How does the 0.5-watt Power Control function?

The integrated Power Control attenuates output from the full 25 watts down to 0.5 watts while driving the reactive analog power section at full saturation. This preserves dynamic response, harmonic breakup, and Tube Logic feel at bedroom-friendly volume levels.

Can an electro-acoustic guitar be plugged into the Katana 25?

Yes. Alongside electric voicings, the Katana 25 includes a dedicated acoustic-electric amplifier character tuned for flat, full-range reproduction suited to acoustic instruments with onboard preamps or piezo pickups.

How many effects can run simultaneously?

The internal DSP engine provides access to over 60 Boss effects, allowing up to five discrete effect blocks to run concurrently in a single patch.

How does Bluetooth integration work on the Katana 25?

Integrated Bluetooth serves a dual purpose: wireless audio playback from mobile devices for backing tracks, and wireless communication with the Boss Tone Studio editor for deep patch adjustments, preset management, and community patch downloads via Boss Tone Exchange.

Can presets be saved directly to the amplifier hardware?

Yes. The hardware features 30 onboard Tone Setting memory slots, consisting of 20 factory presets and 10 fully customizable user slots accessible directly from the front-panel controls.
