Epiphone SG Special P-90; Cherry Red
An authentic recreation of the early '60s dual-pickup rock machine.
The SG Special established its legacy in the early 1960s as the definitive bridge between the utilitarian Junior and the flagship Standard models. Renowned for its "no-nonsense" approach, it became a staple of the era's most influential rock recordings due to its aggressive midrange and lightweight design. This "Inspired by Gibson" iteration meticulously captures that vintage spirit, providing the aesthetic and sonic profile of the original Kalamazoo-era instruments.
Constructed with a classic double-cutaway solid mahogany body, this model features a mahogany neck with a '60s SlimTaper profile for a fast, ergonomic feel. The hardware configuration includes a period-correct compensated wraparound bridge for enhanced sustain and a set of Epiphone Deluxe tuners with ivory buttons. A bound rosewood fingerboard with 22 medium jumbo frets and a Graph Tech nut completes the physical build, ensuring reliable intonation and resonance.
Sonic Character and Electronics
-
Epiphone P-90 PRO Soapbars: Engineered to replicate the snarling midrange bite and wide dynamic response of vintage single-coil pickups.
-
Independent Controls: Dual volume and tone pots allow for precise blending and tonal shaping across both pickup positions.
-
High-Fidelity Signal Path: Equipped with a 3-way toggle switch for instantaneous switching between rhythm, lead, and combined settings.
-
Dynamic Range: Responds accurately to volume adjustments, cleaning up at lower levels and providing gritty overdrive when pushed.
Vintage-Correct Appointments
-
Kalamazoo Headstock: Features the iconic early '60s shape adorned with a mother-of-pearl Epiphone logo.
-
SlimTaper Neck Profile: Designed for modern playability while maintaining the comfortable, thin feel favored by high-speed rock players.
-
Compensated Wraparound Bridge: Maintains a vintage-correct aesthetic while providing dependable intonation across the fretboard.
-
Premium Materials: Uses a real rosewood fingerboard and pearloid dot inlays to meet the hardware standards of the original series.
The Epiphone SG Special P-90 is a purpose-built instrument designed for players seeking the raw, stripped-back energy of a vintage Gibson. Its lightweight mahogany construction and durable hardware make it a reliable choice for touring and studio work alike. To ensure portability and protection, each guitar comes equipped with a premium gig bag, ready for immediate professional use.
