Gibson Hummingbird Original Acoustic Guitar; Heritage Cherry Sunburst
Introduced in 1960 as Gibson's premier square-shoulder dreadnought, the Hummingbird Original maintains a historic legacy defined by balanced acoustic projection and broad dynamic versatility. The platform pairs a solid Sitka spruce soundboard with solid mahogany back and sides, reinforced internally by traditional hand-scalloped X-bracing. This tonewood pairing generates pronounced low-end warmth, a focused midrange, and articulate harmonic clarity suitable for rhythm tracking and lead accompaniment alike. The body is framed with multi-ply binding and sealed in a gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish that protects the timber while allowing the soundboard to vibrate freely.
Structural coupling is achieved through a compound dovetail neck-to-body joint, ensuring direct mechanical energy transfer between the mahogany neck and the acoustic chamber. The neck is shaped to a comfortable Rounded profile and capped with a rosewood fingerboard featuring a 12-inch radius, 20 standard frets, and mother-of-pearl parallelogram inlays. Vintage-correct appointments include gold Gotoh keystone tuning machines paired with a genuine bone nut for smooth string travel and reliable pitch retention. Acoustic energy is anchored at the lower bout by a traditional rosewood belly-up bridge fitted with a bone saddle and TUSQ bridge pins, while the iconic Hummingbird graphic pickguard preserves the historic visual identity of the model.
For amplified tracking and live performance, the instrument incorporates the Gibson-exclusive Baggs HiFi DNA active pickup system. Utilizing dual lightweight bridge-plate sensors matched to optimized individual preamps, this system captures soundboard vibrations directly to deliver transparent acoustic tone and high gain-before-feedback without altering unamplified resonance. Volume and tone adjustments are managed via discreet soundhole-mounted controls that remain concealed from the audience. Packaged in a fitted hardshell case, the Hummingbird Original delivers reliable functional utility alongside authentic vintage design.
