Way Huge Smalls Conspiracy Theory Pro Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal
What’s True?
OK, here we go. Tin foil hats at the ready.
The Conspiracy Theory Professional Overdrive by the Reptilians at Way Huge pedals is an overdrive pedal that’s out of this world! Sorry about that. Realistically, this pedal is Way Huge’s version of the much beloved Klon style overdrive pedal. Jeorge Tripps himself mounted a covert mission of high-level espionage to delve into the deep state and returned with this punchy, articulate overdrive.
What Exactly is Transparent Overdrive?
The term “transparent overdrive” has become somewhat of a buzzword in recent years. It’s been tacked onto a great slew of pedals which accomplish the goal of “transparency” to varying levels of success. When realised correctly the term refers to a drive tone which has bags of room and dynamism. You can turn everything up to 10 and give it the big’n if you’d like, but the tone is responsive and will sing just as beautifully wherever you set it. The pedal that really ignited everyone’s interest in the “transparent overdrive” phenomenon was the Klon Centaur. That particular gold (or silver) box can be seen on a dizzying array of show-stopping players boards.
Was it an Inside Job?
The Conspiracy Theory is a really spot on example of a good transparent overdrive. It responds in all the right ways to your volume control, the amp, your guitar, and your playing style. It’ll bite or purr whenever you choose, just like a good transparent overdrive should. Critically though, the tone at the heart of this pedal is fantastic. You’ll get a good amount of warm grit and snarl accompanied by a symphony of beautiful rich harmonics. It makes a fantastic boost into a crunchy valve amp or as a stand alone source of drive into a clean amp.
Shape Shifter
Keeping on the theme of versatility, the Conspiracy Theory’s controls, though simple, are extremely powerful. The gain and volume controls are fairly self-explanatory. You can use them to dial in the amount of aggression that the pedal can provide. How full and saturated the drive will be. The hidden powerhouse though is the treble control. This simple control allows the pedal to metamorphosize to perfectly blend in to its surroundings. Turning it up will add brightness and sparkle to cut into warmer, muddier humbucker pickups. Turning it down will curtail the brightness to allow sharper single-coils to sing without overwhelming the ear. It’s the final touch to add tonal flavour and ensure that it sits really snuggly in your signal chain no matter the other gear it is surrounded by.
Get Your Hands on your Own Little Piece of Area 51
The Conspiracy Theory is a fantastic Klon style overdrive from the genius mind of Jeorge Tripps. Beautiful, dynamic, characterful drive tones await no matter what guitar, amp, or pick you use. For fans of an attention grabbing, articulate drive tone that’ll respond to their touch and playing style, look no further. The Conspiracy Theory is the perfect way to achieve Klon style transparent drive without needing to find a couple thousand pounds or storm Area 51 to harvest the off-world technology.
