It All Starts With The Piano Sound
At the heart of the CVP905 is the sound of two concert grand pianos. Starting with the Yamaha CFX - this is a powerful instrument with a strong bass register and delicate high notes. As a contrast, the Bosendorfer Imperial piano voice is delicate and slightly more mellow than the CFX voice. These two piano sounds give the player two World-class instruments at their fingertips - both suited to different styles of music and tastes.
In addition to these two 'core' piano sounds, there are a huge number of other piano voices ideally suited to classical, pop, jazz, ballads, ragtime and even Latin American music.
GrandTouch Keyboard Action
Equally as important as the 'sound', is the touch of a piano. The CVP905 is fitted with an 88 key linear graded hammer Yamaha's GrandFeel keyboard action. This keyboard has wooden keys (white only), synthetic ebony and ivory key tops, and simulated escapement mechanism. The keytouch sensitivity can be adjusted for different players.
When combined with the excellent piano voices, the GrandTouch keyboard enables a really expressive performance.
Three Assignable Pedals
The CVP905 has three pedals - just the same as an acoustic piano. In their standard mode, these pedals offer Sustain, Soft and Sostenuto functions, but is it also possible to re-assign these to perform other convenient functions such as Sustain, Sostenuto, Soft, Glide, Song Play/Pause, Style Start/Stop, Volume, etc.
Familiar Touchscreen Operating System
Navigating your way around the CVP905 is made easy with the implementation of a 7-inch TFT Colour LCD touchscreen. The home screen can be customised to show your favourite 'shortcuts' to the functions you use on a regular basis, as well as being able to display lyrics and musical scores in excellent definition.
Huge Range Of On-Board Sounds
The CVP905 is more than just a piano. In fact, the CVP905 has 1315 onboard voices (plus 49 drum kits and 480 XG voices). This means you have everything you need to create complex multi-track compositions, or for mixing voices together when playing with the backing styles to make the biggest big-band arrangements! Every instrument category has a wide range of voice options available, including Organ, Orchestral Strings, Choir, Synthesizer, Woodwind, Brass, World/Ethnic, Guitars, and of course other keyboard instruments such as e.piano, clav and harpsichords.
Studio Quality Digital Effects
High quality digital effects are onboard the CVP905 to give your sound that professional edge. Multiple effects can be applied to different voices at the same time, meaning you can add a little chorus to your electric piano voice, whilst the guitars in the backing styles are being pushed through a simulated stomp-box distortion effect. In total there are 65 preset reverbs, 106 chorus/modulation effects, 322 Insert effects, 322 variation effects, 54 vocal harmony presets, plus compressors and EQ's. Yamaha haven't cut back in when loading the CVP905 with effects!
Accompaniment Styles
Pianos with auto accompaniment features have been available for more than 30 years, but all preconceptions should be forgotten before listening to the latest generation instruments. The quality and realism of the backing band which is provided by the CVP905 is the best you'll hear. Using technology derived from Yamaha's Genos flagship workstation keyboard, the CVP905 provides 525 preset musical styles covering genres such as pop, dance, big band, jazz, latin, country, orchestral, films & shows, world music and more.
There are multiple selections of each music genre and if you need to add more styles, there are thousands available to download from the Yamaha MusicSoft website (additional charges). Each on-board musical style has four variations, three intros and endings, plus multiple drum fills & breaks. Controlling the styles is easy from the front panel buttons, and there are multiple chord scanning options for different playing styles (Single Finger, Fingered, Fingered On Bass, Multi Finger, AI Fingered, Full Keyboard, AI Full Keyboard).
Playalong With Song Backing Tracks
In addition to the auto accompaniment styles mentioned above (which follow your playing using chords), the CVP905 has a powerful song player/recorder. There are 100 preset songs built in which allow you to mute the piano parts so you can pay along to a professional backing track. More song titles are available to purchase from YamahaMusicsoft website.
There are also 303 'Lesson Songs' of varying difficulties available in the instrument. These can be used in conjunction with the 'follow the lights' feature so that even beginner pianists can have fun with the CVP905 straight away!
Record Your Own Songs & Compositions
The CVP905 has an on-board 16 track recorder. This means you can build up your own complex compositions using multiple voices at the same time, or, it could be simply used to record a single piano performance. Data can be stored as MIDI for editing later on, or record as .MP3 or .WAV audio files for easy sharing with friends and family.
High Quality Amplification On-Board
To make the most of the sound technology available in the CVP905, Yamaha has chosen to include a 130watt output amplification system which drives four speakers housed in a separate speaker box for maximum bass response.
Connections
The CVP905 features two headphone output jacks (with Bi-Naural Sampling for the CFX grand piano voice). In addition, there is a mic input for singing along with your music, traditional MIDI in/out/thru, Aux in (stereo mini jack), Aux out (6.35mm jacks), Aux pedal input (for expression pedal), 2 x USB device sockets and a USB to host for computer/smart device connection.
